Suunto has unveiled the Ocean, a new smartwatch that serves as a comprehensive dive computer and a versatile sports watch. Available in three different colors, this innovative device combines advanced diving features with smart functionality.
A Smartwatch Designed for Divers and Athletes
The Finnish manufacturer Suunto has launched a new smartwatch aimed at divers and athletes. The Suunto Ocean, listed on the company’s website, merges the capabilities of a dive computer and a sports watch into one device. It is available in three colors: All Black, Steel Black, and Sand. Although currently out of stock, availability is expected to improve soon. The suggested retail price is 899 euros.
Robust Features for Diving Enthusiasts
The Suunto Ocean is designed primarily for diving enthusiasts who also engage in other sports. Crafted from stainless steel, this smartwatch is water-resistant up to 100 meters and features a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels. Suunto claims the battery can last up to 26 days in time mode, up to 12 days with continuous tracking and mobile notifications, and up to 120 hours depending on the training mode with GPS enabled.
Comprehensive Diving Modes and Safety Features
The Suunto Ocean offers various diving modes, including recreational diving with Nitrox, technical diving with multigas support, and freediving. It boasts numerous functions tailored for divers, such as audible and vibration alarms, dive time and depth alarms, and wireless tank pressure monitoring when paired with a Suunto Tank POD. Additionally, it is equipped with the Bühlmann 16 diving algorithm with gradient factors and customizable ascent profiles, allowing users to select their personal decompression profile.
Versatile Sports Watch for Land Activities
When not underwater, the Suunto Ocean excels with over 95 sports modes, including running, cycling, yoga, mountaineering, and strength training. It features 32 GB of storage for outdoor offline maps, complete with contour lines, water bodies, trails, and landmarks to aid in outdoor activities.
Advanced Health Tracking Capabilities
In terms of health tracking, the new Ocean smartwatch from Suunto monitors daily activities such as steps, calories burned, and sleep quality (including sleep phases). It also tracks recovery with heart rate variability. The smartwatch is further equipped with an altimeter, barometer, compass, dual-band GPS/GNSS, weather updates, smart notifications, and music control.
