Samsung is gearing up to expand its ‘Fan Edition’ (FE) branding beyond smartphones, with the Galaxy Watch series next in line to receive the treatment. The much-anticipated Galaxy Watch FE is poised to make its debut alongside the Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra at an upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, and leaks have already given us a glimpse into its specifications and design.
Insights from Sudhanshu Ambhore
Offering fresh insights into the Galaxy Watch FE is Sudhanshu Ambhore, who has recently shed light on the device. This comes roughly two months after the first mention of the FE variant surfaced online. Ambhore’s revelations suggest that Samsung is adopting a familiar strategy with the Galaxy Watch FE, drawing heavily from previous Galaxy Watch models in terms of hardware and features.
Familiar Hardware, New Packaging
One of the key points highlighted by Ambhore is the utilization of the Exynos W920 chipset in the Galaxy Watch FE. While this chipset may not be the latest and greatest, being nearly three years old, its performance is still expected to meet the needs of most users. Additionally, the Galaxy Watch FE is rumored to come with 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, and a 247 mAh battery, promising a decent but not exceptional battery life of around 30 hours.
Robust Features for Active Lifestyles
Despite its reliance on older hardware, the Galaxy Watch FE doesn’t skimp on features. It boasts 5 ATM water resistance, IP68 certification, and a suite of sensors for tracking heart rate, SpO2 levels, and even conducting electrocardiograms (ECG). Moreover, it incorporates Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology for measuring body composition, ensuring it remains competitive in the fitness wearable market.
A Rebranded Successor & Release Date
In essence, the Galaxy Watch FE appears to be a rebranded version of the Galaxy Watch4, currently available for $139.99 on Amazon. This aligns with earlier speculations by Roland Quandt, who hinted at Samsung’s plans to introduce the Galaxy Watch4 2024 alongside other devices such as the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024. With its anticipated launch scheduled for early July, the Galaxy Watch FE is poised to join Samsung’s lineup of wearable devices at the next Galaxy Unpacked event, alongside the Galaxy Watch7 series and the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
