The new year is off to a flying start. The Watch 4 Pro recently received the December 2024 security patch, and now the HUAWEI Watch GT5 Pro is getting a new firmware update.
The changelog is once again cryptic. After the installation, I couldn’t find any new features. Perhaps this update is preparing for NFC payments, which Huawei still owes us.
As always, make sure you have the latest version of the Huawei Health app installed from the AppGallery. The new firmware has a download size of 22.61MB and can be conveniently downloaded over mobile data.

Note: For a better user experience, it is recommended to first update the Huawei Health app to the latest version in the app store. Do not disconnect the Bluetooth connection during the update. If the update fails, try again.
Updating the wearable may take some time. Please wait until the progress bar on the device indicates the end of the process. The device will restart automatically after the update is complete.
Opinion/Conclusion
As mentioned in the introduction, the changelog is again cryptic and I personally haven’t noticed any new features or optimizations. Like all owners of a GT5 Pro, we are still waiting for the payment function via NFC via the provider Quicko. This was communicated at the end of last year, but this option still does not exist in Germany. I am not aware of any new information until Huawei enables this function in conjunction with the provider Quicko or until the Quicko app is available for the GT5 Pro.
