Garmin has released a new software update that brings numerous enhancements, some of which are crucial for safety, to several smart systems designed for cyclists. These updates benefit not only the owners of top-tier systems but also existing users with improved features.
Extensive Range of Garmin Systems
Garmin offers a wide range of systems for athletic users. Their product lineup includes indoor trainers, smartwatches, and bike computers. Recently, the company introduced the Garmin Edge 1050, a highly advanced bike computer featuring its own navigation capabilities. In typical Garmin fashion, new features are usually extended to existing customers, making new purchases unnecessary for accessing these upgrades.
Software Update for Multiple Bike Computers
The current software update, Version 23.09, is a beta release and is being rolled out in phases. This update applies to several Garmin bike computers, including the Edge 540, Edge 840, and Edge 1040. Users can easily install the update on their devices without needing to connect to a computer.
Significant Enhancements for Edge 1040 Series
The Edge 1040 series bike computers receive several significant improvements with this update. One notable feature is the ability to alert following riders of hazards on the route, enhancing safety. Additionally, GroupRide recordings and climb-specific competitions have been added.
New Power-Guide and Map Features
The Power-Guide now includes wind strength information, and different types of terrain are supported on the map display. Users can also download maps over WiFi, with a new base map now available for India.
Enhanced SRAM 12-Speed Cassette Support
For users with a 12-speed SRAM cassette, the update provides a corresponding template, simplifying gear entry. Handwriting recognition has also been improved to facilitate easier input.
Other Improvements and Features
The update includes minor improvements and changes, such as enhanced notifications, easier pausing of sports activities, and simplified pairing with a Strava account via a QR code. The search function for city names has been optimized for faster results, according to the comprehensive changelog.
