Garmin Releases New Update for Instinct 2, 2S, 2X, and Crossover Smartwatches

Garmin has recently released a new beta update for its Instinct 2 series, marking the first update in some time. The beta version 16.06 introduces only minor changes for the Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S smartwatches, as well as the larger Instinct 2X and Instinct Crossover models.

Quiet Period for Garmin’s Beta Program

Lately, Garmin’s beta program has been unusually quiet, especially concerning the Instinct 2 series. This contrasts with the more active updates for other supported Garmin smartwatches like the Fenix 6 and Fenix 7 models. In fact, over the past two months, Garmin has only released one beta update, which was version 16.02.

Previous Stable Update

The last stable update for the Instinct 2 series remains version 15.08. However, the company has now introduced beta version 16.06, which includes the following changes compared to version 15.08:

General Changes

  • A problem with the Battery Saver watch face where the time was not updating correctly has been fixed.
  • An issue where the inReach screen would appear after using the Health Monitoring app has been resolved.
  • A problem where data on the activity overview page was hidden has been addressed.
  • The high/low temperature was being cut off on the Morning Report page.
  • The rest timer for bouldering activities could be cut off.
  • The timer for strength activities could be truncated.
  • There was an issue with the Sight’N Go hotkey when accessed outside of an activity.

Changes Specific to Instinct 2/2S/2X

  • An issue with CIQ watch faces in the watch faces menu has been resolved.

Minimal Improvements Over Previous Beta Version

Beta 16.06 brings only slight improvements over the previous beta version 16.02. Specifically, Garmin notes that a problem affecting the use of the Sight’N Go hotkey outside of an activity has been fixed across all Instinct 2 series smartwatches. Additionally, an unresolved issue with CIQ watch faces in the “Watch Faces” menu has been addressed for all models except the Instinct Crossover.
