Garmin Instinct Update

Garmin is rolling out a new software update for its popular Instinct 2 series of mid-range smartwatches. This update, System Software 16.10, focuses primarily on resolving a variety of bugs that were impacting functionality during workouts and daily use.

Farewell Beta, Hello Stability

The arrival of System Software 16.10 marks the end of the beta testing period for version 16. Garmin offered its thanks to all participants in the beta program and expressed their eagerness for future collaborations.

This update brings together the various fixes developed throughout the beta phase. While it doesn’t introduce any new features, it addresses eight specific issues that were plaguing the Instinct 2, Instinct 2S, and Instinct 2X models. The Instinct Crossover receives all but one of these fixes, with details outlined in the official changelog accessible through Garmin’s forums.

Bug Squashing Bonanza

The update tackles a range of issues that could hinder your workout experience or daily smartwatch functionality. Here’s a breakdown of the addressed problems:

  • Truncated Timers: No more disappearing rest timers during bouldering sessions or truncated timers for strength activities.
  • Activity Summary Mishap: Data on the activity summary page is no longer obscured by unwanted elements.
  • Morning Report on the Fritz: The high and low temperatures displayed on the Morning Report page will now show in full, without being cut off.
  • Accidental inReach Display: The inReach screen will no longer appear unexpectedly after using the Health Monitoring app.
  • Battery Saver Blues: The time on the Battery Saver watch face will now update correctly, ensuring accurate timekeeping.
  • CIQ Watch Face Woes: Functionality of CIQ watch faces within the Watch Face menu has been restored (applicable to Instinct 2, 2S, and 2X only).
  • Sight ‘N Go Hiccups: The Sight ‘N Go hot key, used for navigation outside of activities, now functions as intended.

With these fixes in place, Instinct 2 series users can expect a smoother and more reliable smartwatch experience.
