Garmin, a renowned name in the smartwatch industry, has introduced a significant software update aimed at enhancing the functionality and user experience of its smartwatches. Known for their robust features and reliability, Garmin’s smartwatches are popular among fitness enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers. This latest update, version 16.07, addresses several issues reported by users, promising to refine the performance and reliability of the devices

Smartwatches Receiving the Update

The manufacturer, Garmin, has rolled out a new software update for several smartwatches, including the Garmin Instinct 2, Instinct 2S, Instinct 2X, and the Garmin Instinct Crossover. This update upgrades the firmware of these watches to version 16.07. Currently, it is a beta update, meaning it is not yet available to all users. The update is being released in waves, so even beta program participants may experience a delay. Users should also ensure their secure_config data is up to date. If it is not, it must be updated manually, although the beta updates themselves can be installed wirelessly via OTA.

Improvements and Bug Fixes

Compared to the last stable version, beta version 16.07 does not introduce new features. However, it does promise to fix several bugs. According to the manufacturer, watch faces should now operate with lower power consumption and display the correct time. Additionally, the inReach screen should no longer appear erroneously. After activities, Garmin smartwatches can display a summary of the activity with relevant data. The new software update ensures these data summaries are now reliably accurate.

Specific Issues Addressed

The update also resolves issues related to the morning report, the recovery timer during bouldering, and strength training. Previously, these issues resulted in information being truncated to the point of reduced usability. Additionally, problems with CIQ watch faces were fixed, but only for the Instinct 2, 2S, and 2X models, not the Instinct Crossover.
