Garmin integrates Run Coach feature into Connect app

Garmin has taken a significant step forward in running coaching with the integration of its Run Coach feature into the Connect app.  This update is currently available on select Garmin devices including the Fenix 7 series running software version 18.10 and Forerunners running on 20.15. This marks a departure from the previously offered static Coach Plans and Daily Suggested Workouts (DSW). The new system leverages advanced algorithms to create personalized and adaptive training programs tailored to individual runners.

How Does It Work?

The core of the new Garmin Run Coach lies in its ability to generate dynamic workout plans based on specific race goals or general fitness improvement. These plans are created seven days in advance and can be accessed both on the watch and in the smartphone app. A notable feature is the inclusion of longer distance plans, including marathon training.

What sets this system apart is its adaptive scheduling. Garmin’s algorithm considers factors like sleep, fatigue, and past performance to adjust workout intensity and timing on the fly. This ensures that training remains challenging yet manageable.

While the early Beta version shows promise, it’s not without its challenges. These issues are expected in a Beta phase and Garmin is committed to refining the system through future updates.

For runners transitioning from Daily Suggested Workouts, the adaptation to the new system appears smooth due to the familiar elements incorporated into the broader training framework.
