According to emerging reports, Garmin is gearing up to unveil its inaugural Forerunner smartwatch under the name of Garmin Forerunner 165. Allegedly, the forthcoming Garmin Forerunner is set to boast an AMOLED display, alongside a host of other enhancements compared to its aging predecessor.

Fitness Tracker Test appears to have gleaned some new information about an upcoming Garmin Forerunner smartwatch. Allegedly, the website has learned of these details from ‘activities on the [sic] Garmin’s websites’. However, it has provided no evidence to back up its assertions.
Speculation Surrounding Forerunner 65 and Forerunner 165
As such, we would recommend treating this as speculation on Fitness Tracker Test’s behalf for now, as was the case in December 2023 with its discussions about Garmin releasing Epix 3 and Fenix 8 smartwatches. At any rate, the website claims that ‘Garmin’s website contains references’ to the Forerunner 65 and Forerunner 165, the latter of which it prefers for some reason over the former. Supposedly, both retail names relate to a single model that will replace the Forerunner 55, a smartwatch that is coming up three years old (curr. $189.99 on Amazon).
Variants and Features
Fitness Tracker Test adds that two variants will likely be distinguished by storage capacities and Wi-Fi connectivity. Reportedly, this more advanced model will arrive with a ‘Music’ suffix, a term that Garmin has used on various smartwatch series over the years. Unfortunately, the company is expected to limit the Music model to 4 GB of storage, half provided to the Forerunner 265 and an eighth of the storage offered by the Forerunner 965.
Display and Performance Expectations
Additionally, the Forerunner 65 or Forerunner 165 is said to feature a 1.2-inch AMOLED (390 x 390 pixels) display, plus a battery that lasts up to 11 days in smartwatch mode or as little as 6.5 hours when playing music. Moreover, the unreleased smartwatch is rumored to contain Elevate V4, Garmin’s fourth-generation PPG sensor, and a barometric altimeter. Unfortunately, a release date remains unknown for now, as does launch pricing and how Garmin will visually distinguish the smartwatch from the current Forerunner 55.
