Garmin’s Fenix 8 series is on the horizon, and the anticipation is building. Recent leaks have revealed key details about these highly anticipated smartwatches, including their display technology, battery life, and new features as well as real photos and a video.
AMOLED Displays and Enhanced Battery Life
One of the most significant changes in the Fenix 8 series is the adoption of AMOLED displays. This technology offers superior color accuracy, contrast, and brightness compared to traditional MIP screens. However, there were concerns about how this would impact battery life.
Fortunately, it seems that Garmin has managed to address these concerns. The Fenix 8 (51 mm) with an AMOLED panel is expected to offer a similar battery life to its predecessor, which could last up to 28 days in smartwatch mode. This is a testament to Garmin’s ability to optimize power consumption while delivering a visually stunning display.
Based on recent tweets (FitnessTrackerTest (FTT)), Garmin is likely to outfit the Fenix 8 series with AMOLED displays across all models except for the Solar SKUs. These Solar variants will retain MIP displays to prioritize battery life. According to FTT’s predictions, the Fenix 8 Solar (51 mm) will boast an impressive battery life of up to 48 days in smartwatch mode, surpassing the 37 days claimed by its predecessor, the Fenix 7X Solar.
New Features and Functionality
The Fenix 8 series will also introduce several new features, including:
- Diving and diving with a mask modes: For those who enjoy underwater adventures.
- Microphone and speaker: Enabling hands-free calling and voice control.
- Elevate Gen 5 heart rate sensor: Providing accurate heart rate tracking.
