Fitbit has quietly begun rolling out a minor but useful update to several of its popular smartwatches and fitness trackers. Version 214.22 is now available for the Charge 6, Sense 2, Versa 4, and Inspire 3, bringing with it a mix of security improvements and convenient new status icons.
This update’s key highlight is bolstering Bluetooth security for the Charge 6 and Inspire 3. After installing the update, Fitbit recommends that users reconnect their devices via the Fitbit app to ensure that enhanced security measures are properly implemented. This added layer of protection aims to safeguard user data and maintain a secure connection between the wearable and the user’s smartphone.
Beyond security enhancements, the update introduces a set of helpful status indicators across all four devices. These icons briefly appear on the watch face upon waking the device, providing at-a-glance information about the device’s current state. The new indicators include a “Do Not Disturb” icon, a crescent moon for “sleep mode,” a red battery symbol warning of low power, and a crossed-out phone icon indicating a lost Bluetooth connection.
These status indicators offer a quick and easy way for users to understand their device’s settings without navigating through menus. While the icons appear briefly upon waking the device, users can also access them by swiping right from the clock face to the quick settings menu. For those who prefer a cleaner look, the status indicators can be easily toggled on or off within the device’s settings menu under Display > Status Indicators. This customization option allows users to personalize their experience and choose the level of information they want readily available. The update, which began rolling out on February 20th, is expected to reach all eligible devices in the coming days.
